Can you tell us your name, role and company?
Dominic Richards, Business Manager, Onslow St Audrey’s School
Can you give us a brief overview of what the business does?
Onslow St Audrey’s is a vibrant, successful, caring school that is committed to bringing out the best in everyone. Some years ago two Hatfield schools joined together to form Onslow St Audrey’s. Although we are a modern and forward-looking Business and Enterprise College, our name and school badge reflect a history that stretches back 1500 years.
What is your role at the school?
As the Business Manager, I lead all administrative functions of the school including HR, Finance, Facilities Management, Premises Management and IT.
Water market opening
What made you decide to stay with Affinity for Business when the water market opened?
I knew the water market was becoming deregulated, as I had seen information on it in the press. Before it happened, our dedicated Account Manager from Affinity for Business called to explain that Affinity for Business was splitting from Affinity Water. So to begin with, we stayed with Affinity for Business for our Water and we were with Castle for our Waste.
What made you decide to switch your waste water to Affinity for Business?
When the market opened we were able to reassess what would be best value for us for both our Clean and Waste Water supply. Our Affinity for Business Account Manager gave us a proposal for a combined package for both clean and waste water. We were happy with that, as it was cheaper than what had been offered by Castle. We had also had a few problems with Castle in the past – they hadn’t sent us invoices for a long time and there has been no contact – so we made the decision to move to Affinity for Business for both services and we are very happy with the switch and the service.
Do you feel you have a good relationship with AfB?
I am happy with it. Adam (our Account Manager) touches base and lets us know of developments that might be of interest to us. Recently we engaged Affinity for Business to do some additional work, looking at water quality and Legionella testing at the school and we were really happy with that service too.

Please provide an overview of the main benefits you experienced since working with AfB?
The first benefit I see is the competitive price but another big one is having a dedicated Account Manager who is always on hand and is able to help us look at other ways Affinity for Business could help our school, outside of the basic water and waste supply. Like the Legionella testing work we have done with them, as an example. Their headquarters are also fairly local to us, which is nice. The school has worked closely with Affinity Water in the past and we actually used their buildings to host our A level Art and Photography students exhibition. So it’s nice dealing with someone local.
